I'm so happy you're here!!
I'm making a point to post on Mondays about moments I am grateful for in the past week. We can all use a little more intentional thinking about things we're grateful for. With that said, I hope you'll continue to join me in gratitude on Mondays :)

Here are a few moments from this past week that I am grateful for:
Family Fun has definitely been the theme this past week. We are in summer-mode over here and it's been kind of amazing.
We started the week off the same way we usually do, Brent had to work so the kids and I spent Monday and Tuesday chilling at the park and going for walks. In the evenings, I did some mean BBQ-ing. YUM! Seriously, I can't get enough BBQ, I might love summer primarily for this reason.
tell me you're not drooling over this pic, sooooo good!
Last minute change of plans
To say I'm a spontaneous person would be kind of hilarious. I mean, I have my moments but I don't typically endeavor to do crazy things at the last moment especially when it includes me on my own with the kiddos.
We had planned for me to head up to my dad and stepmom's place on Thursday and for Mr. B to join us after work Thursday night. I was dreading packing up and the 2 hour drive with the kids while parenting solo.
Wednesday morning I called my stepmom and when she said "why don't you just come up now?" Initially, I was overwhelmed at the sheer consideration of what this last minute change of plans would mean for me (packing up two kids and myself in less than an hour and a half so I could hit the road for the kid's nap time) but for some reason, I said "sure, why not". Okay, a big factor here was that Annabelle had been asking for three days when we were going and had just said "can we go now?"
So I hauled ass and packed my car with what resembled the entire contents of my house (you can't forget anything if you bring EVERYTHING) and we were on our way.
I won't say there weren't some hiccups and when Oliver had a total meltdown that night, I may have regretted my decision for a few minutes, but truthfully, it was a great decision and the rest of the weekend was amazing.
all packed up and headed out!! Still smiling!
It was a big fam-jam at my dad and stepmom's place. It was not only great to spend time with people we don't see that often but my dad and stepmom have a gorgeous property and it was so nice to be outside, by the water just hanging out. We played outside, napped (well the kids napped), had a few (too many) drinks, sunbathed, played badminton and board-games, cheered on the Blue Jays and went for a hike. We also ate, A LOT but my goodness the food was good (on an unrelated note: I need a detox ASAP).
the kids were so happy when daddy arrived! Oh and yes, Annabelle has a blackeye and Oliver has a bump on his head. Ollie smacked his head while trying to run (despite not quite having a handle on this walking business) and Annabelle was running in the house and slid, head-first (naturally) into the Dora desk grandpa got for her. Needless to say, my nerves were shot!
World's happiest dog out for a hike. He led the way, kept running way ahead and looking back like "hurry up guys!" It was tons of fun until he decided to jump into a swap. Because who wouldn't want to swim in stale swamp water? Don't worry, it was remedied when he jumped into the river.
Someone decided right before we ventured out on our scavenger hunt that she, in fact, did not feel like walking. I improvised and threw her in the carrier on my back, she loved it and it was a good workout for mom.
More last minute plans
We returned home on Saturday so that we'd have a day at home to get stuff done around the house. Ya, things haven't really gone in that direction. We were chatting with our neighbors while drinking coffee on the front porch and when they mentioned they were going to the splash pad we saw the admiration in Annabelle's face. We decided that moment to quickly pack up the kiddos, make some pb&j sandwiches and head over to the park. They both had a blast and we not only got to bask in the hot sun but their laughter as they got surprised by sprays of water (okay, Oliver wasn't a huge fan of surprise cold water - sorry buddy). Both kids were beyond tuckered when we got home so they're napping and Mr. B and I are chilling on the back deck listening to the Blue Jays game.... ya, so much for laundry being done. Hey, I vacuumed when we got back yesterday, that's gotta count for something, right?!
It took her a while to actually get in the water but once she did she didn't want to leave.
This kid was happy just to crawl and splash around a safe distance away from the squirting water lol

Spur of the moment isn't always my thing but it seems to be the way I'm living the last few weeks. I've forgone a lot of time blogging and social media-ing lately and it seems whenever I do sit down I get quickly pulled in some other direction. I have mixed feelings about this because I miss this place and people, I feel bad for not commenting back much lately and not being as engaged as I have been. Having said that, I'm happy too because I'm lucky that I have these little people, this family to spend time with and beautiful weather to enjoy. Life isn't always perfect but it's pretty freaking great sometimes.
Happy Canada Day (belated) to my Canadian friends and happy 4th of July to my American friends!! Hope you all felt as blessed as I have this past weekend.
