5 ingredients or less

Friday, November 28, 2014

For this weeks linkup we're doing a recipe with 5 ingredients or less.

Pineapple Cheeseball
sorry for the lack of pic :(

1 green onion chopped
1/2 can crushed pineapple
2 cups shredded cheese
1 pkg cream cheese
1 cup chopped pecans

easiest recipe EVER. Throw it all (okay, not all, save some shredded cheese OR, better yet, just shred more cheese, you can't go wrong with extra cheese in a cheeseball) in your kitchen aid mixer (aka my favorite appliance). Mix. Roll it in a ball, roll said ball in left over (or newly) shredded cheese. Cover ball in saran wrap and refrigerate. Serve with crackers. YUM!!

Note: my mom makes this and usually rolls one in cheese and one in pecans. Apparently one cheeseball is never enough.

I know the pineapple sounds weird, but you're going to have to trust me, this recipe is too easy and too delicious not to. Enjoy!!

Oh and thanks, now I'm hungry.

Please visit the other ladies and link up - I'd LOVE to read your recipes!!

what I wish I wore

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

It's no secret I'm struggling lately. I'm short on time, energy and a toddler that sleeps... I'm lacking one of those too.

I've decided I'm going to show you two outfits from my favorite store (RW&co) that I WISH I had been wearing this week... because that's more fun than showing you what I actually wore. Oh and there's the whole fact that I didn't actually take pics of what I was wearing (no evidence that way lol)

here they are:

RW&co - I want to wrap myself up in that cardigan

RW&co - I could probably recreate this look from my closet... must get motivated

I am also feeling like I'm in a clothing rut. It could be the lack of sleep, but once again I am finding it challenging to leave the house feeling remotely put together in the mornings. Thankfully, the Winter Style Challenge is open for registration and I'll receive my shopping list this week!

Registration closes Thursday at 11:59pm so you'd better get signed up quick!

AND this time there will be some dressy outfits in the mix! so fun!

Datevitation love coupons - GIVEAWAY and discount!!!

Saturday, November 22, 2014

Datevitation

No, I'm not advertising a dating site... though, that would be kind of funny - I somehow don't think Mr. B would approve.

I digress (already).

I was contacted by the kind folks at Datevitation to do a collaboration. I LOVE doing fun stuff like this so it wasn't a hard sell. PLUS, they not only offered me free product, they also offered a discount for you lovely readers AND a chance to win your own free stuff! SCORE!

At this point, you're probably thinking: "okay, but what the heck is it?", well let me tell you. It's love coupon books!! You know, the kind those crafty people create for their loved ones? The ones with super cute pictures, date ideas, offers of free services etc.? Ya those.

You all know by now, I always think I'm much craftier than I actually am. Sooooo this is perfect. I can create my own book, personalize it (including hilarious pics) AND it literally took me 10 min.

I'll give you some more deets before I share the hilarious-ness that is my coupon book for Mr. B.

  • Datevitation.com is the web's first online platform to create a custom love coupon book. Unlike the pre-packaged love coupon books on the market, you pick the dates and can customize the text to your liking.  Once you are done customizing the text in your book, Datevitation will print it out and ship it to you.
  • Our library contains over 500 date ideas ranging from skydiving to stargazing to steamy adult-only activities. We also have over 100 book cover options to suit any occasion.
  • In addition to being the perfect romantic gift for your sweetie, Datevitation now has "boy" and "girl" characters with over 200 new activity illustrations specifically for kids and parents.  There’s also an exciting feature that allows you to add photos of your own faces to the illustrations!
  • Books normally start at just $25 so it makes for a thoughtful yet economical gift.  But as a special treat for my followers, you can use the code  ‘FRUMPYMOMMY’  for $10 off your purchase plus free shipping (total value of $13.50)   That means you can get your loved one a one-of-a-kind gift for Christmas starting at just $15!  The order cut-off date for guaranteed delivery by Christmas isDecember 13 so make sure to get your order in before then!

Maybe I'm so overtired I have started to lose it, but I seriously find this hilarious. I think it's the little heads on the stick people that I find abnormally entertaining.

Here's my coupon book:

Let's examine this, shall we? Looks innocent enough from the front, but inside, hilarity ensues.

I suppose I'm having a few 'after thoughts' here. I am confident that anyone that knows us knows that we don't need a coupon for a wine night. I suppose Mr. B can cash in if he's feeling like a cheese spread lol Or, perhaps this is just an excuse for an extra wine night. Or maybe we bust out the good wine (and by "bust out" I mean "buy" because we can't keep wine in the house long enough to build a stash. We've tried).

Win an argument. HA. I'm not sure what I will actually do if Mr. B tries to cash this bad-boy in. It's a great idea, but it could seriously bite me in the a$$.

I know, aren't I nice offering a massage? I'm sweet like that. I'll secretly hope I get one in return or first and then I'll fall asleep. Best wife EVER!

You need to know that the default writing on the diaper coupon was "not changing a single diaper for a month" to which I thought "um, ya, no" so I used the trusty personalize option. Needless to say, I liked the personalize option (and it's free).

I had to throw in a make-out related one but really, Mr. B loves the drive-in and we haven't been in ages. I do fall asleep though. Every. Single. Time.

In case you're wondering, there's a whole 'adult only' section of the site. It's worth a perusal just for the stick-figure pictures. I kept my book PG, cause well ya know the internet and all. No need to have my little head plastered on inappropriate stick-figure pictures. Though, I may or may not have checked out said pictures to see what my little head would look like on them. Funny stuff people, funny stuff.

Verdict?

I kind of loved this! It was fun, cute, and I like that there's options to make them for kids and parents too! Creative, easy, personalized and affordable. An all-around awesome gift idea for the un-crafty like myself! Perfect for stocking stuffers too!

Happy shopping AND make sure you use the code: FRUMPYMOMMY for $10 off your purchase AND free shipping (a $13.50 value!)

NOW here's your chance to win a FREE custom love coupon book from www.datevitation.com!!!

what I wore - excuses

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

Essentially this post will begin how the majority of my other posts have lately, with excuses.

I don't particularly love excuses but lately it seems I always have them.

Mini-me is STILL sick. She is STILL waking up EVERYnight and coming in our bed. Combined with the fact she is still waking up multiple times a night coughing, we're not getting a lot of sleep on the daily.

Additionally, I'm sick and it would seem that Mr. B has come down with it too.

It. Never. Ends.

so, here is the one, poor quality pic, I managed to take in the last week.

I think that was the last day I got away without wearing a jacket.

Now that it's full out winter up in here, I need to figure out a new way to show you what I'm wearing that doesn't involve my puffy winter coat and boots. Suggestions??? Tips?

I need your suggestions ASAP because the Winter/Holiday Challenge opens for registration THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I'm a little excited!

Wanna sign up? Click on the picture below!!

This might be all I can muster tonight, plus, mini-me is due to wake up in 27min...

I hope you're ALL getting more sleep that we are ;)

my top 5 fitness tips

Friday, November 14, 2014

I am going to preface this post (don't I always?) with saying that, until Wednesday, I hadn't been to the gym in a month. Don't worry, I'm back at it and my sore legs, arms and butt are proof!
Bottomline - I'm no fitness model here, BUT I do know the value of staying and being healthy and that includes working out.

5 Fitness Tidbits

  1. SHOW UP - the hardest part of going to the gym for me is getting to the door. Here's the thing, once I get through that door, I never EVER regret it. I read a quote once that said "the only workout you'll ever regret is the one you didn't do". This couldn't be more true.
  2. Don't make excuses - I've been doing this for a last month. "I'm too busy", "I have work to do", "I need to get groceries", "I'm too tired". Yes, these are all legit excuses, but they're still excuses. In my job there are absolutely some days where I literally can't get to the gym, but for the most part, if I don't go it's because I've given myself a reason not to. This needs to stop.

7 months pregnant and getting my home workout on!
  3. Have an accountability partner/team - a gym buddy is great, but you don't even need to take someone with you. Just have people around you who support you and your health. For instance, I was tired yesterday when my lunchtime rolled around. I surveyed my teammates: "should I go to the gym". Some said no but one person spoke up and said "yes, you should, you'll be happy you did" and it was that one opinion that helped get my butt to the door. One sentence was all I needed to keep myself in check. I'm pretty sure if that one person hadn't of said anything, I wouldn't have happily sore legs today.
  4. Train for strength - alright, I'm biased on this one but seriously, PICK UP THE WEIGHTS! It might be awkward at first, you might feel like you don't know what you're doing, but strength training is where it's at! I do short stints of cardio before and after my routine but the majority of my 'work' is done with weights/machines. Long and short of it: more muscle = more calories burned doing nothing and strength training = more muscle.
  5. Do it for YOU - who hasn't gone to the gym just so they look better for someone else? Gone are those days for me. My husband would deal with me getting a little 'fluffier' and my daughter doesn't care if I have 10 extra pounds on BUT I do! AND it's not just about weight, it's barely about that at all for me. I want to be healthy, I want to feel strong, I like seeing definition in my arms and would love to eventually have it in my legs and abs! Working out makes you feel good and that's the best reason there is to get your ass to the gym (or for a run or whatever it is you do).

yesterday and yes, that's the same shirt I wore when pregnant - thank you spandex!

bonus tip:
Take your measurements - sure, I weigh myself sometimes but that number means very little to me. I've weighed less and looked worse than times where I've weighed more but been much more toned. Plus, when you rely on the scale it's really easy to be disheartened when those numbers stop moving (or worse, go up!). The beauty with taking your measurements is that if you're working hard and doing your strength training, the numbers WILL go down!

Now, GO GET HEALTHY!!

what I wore - Nov 12, 2014

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

This is going to be quick. Mini-me is sick and is doing her regularly scheduled 9:30pm wakeup as I type. This cough is going to be the end of me.

I've been slacking with the picture taking... apparently I'm desperately in need of Style Challenges to keep me accountable for pic posting and blog writing. That's okay... the winter challenge approaches!

In the meantime, here's what I've managed to take pics of:

AND here's what's on my nails this week:

icy boysenberry polka and boysenberry chevron - my fav jamicure yet!!

for more info check out my Jamberry Facebook Page or my Jamberry Page

I've got some super cute and festive wraps on the way!! can't wait :)

I'll endeavor to be more organized for next week but not promises.
Also, I've realized that whenever I write about mini-me not sleeping on here, she has a few good nights... let's keep that up, okay? Much appreciated.

This sleepy mom is signing off...

NEW linkup! Plus, a peek into my closet (Yikes)

Thursday, November 6, 2014

I'm super excited to introduce a new linkup happening every other Friday for the foreseeable future.

I love linkups for a number of reasons: they hold me accountable in actually getting posts up, they're usually focused on things I may not necessary think to write/post about AND they usually include a bunch of awesome bloggers. This linkup is no exception!
The Style Me Bloggers linkup series is a bunch of women bloggers who met through, you guessed it, Alison's (Get Your Pretty On) Style Me Challenges. Well, we've enjoyed each other so much that we've decided to linkup (but don't worry, I'm sure we're all set on participating in future Style Challenges as well).

sooooo here we go....

A peek into my closet/organizational tips

I will begin by saying that I did NOT clean or tidy my closet in any way prior to taking these pictures. It's not that I don't think you all deserve to see my closet at the best it can (and should) be, it's more about not having the time (or energy) as I scramble to get this post in order. In my defense, this is just further keeping with my transparency... right? Ya, let's go with that.

Closets get and stay messy, that's just how it is. Honestly, this is actually pretty clean and tidy for me.

I'll apologize now for the crappy picture quality... due to my aforementioned rush, I'm once again relying on my iphone. Sidenote: I've tried to convince Mr. B I desperately need a new phone solely for the picture quality and posting on the blog. He's not convinced.

below is the right side: I SWEAR there's order here. Top is dress pants/skirts, then blazers, long sleep button downs, short sleeve blouses and then sleeveless dressier (ie work-ish) shirts. That last blazer on the top row, he wasn't put back where he belongs. oops (this is how the madness starts)
Bottom: pants/jeans, tanks inappropriate or work (read: girl's night apparel - sidenote: I need one of those), tees, long sleeve tees and then the scarf hanger.
Middle rack is shoes and things I haven't found another place for. DON'T panic, this is just a TINY portion of my shoes. The majority live in the closet downstairs.

Left side: top is dresses/skirts and they are in no particular order.
Bottom is sweaters/cardies. I LOVE this section BUT it clearly looks like it needs some color.

Yes, I have a plastic dresser in my closet AND it kind of looks like that whole ensemble on the left belongs in a dorm room closet. Clearly, I need a closet makeover. BUT look at all the pretty things!

The yellow box is filled with bracelets and the purple one with earrings. The little pieces on top are ones I wear on the regular and apparently am too lazy to put away. Go me.
In the drawers you ask... that would be all of the random stuff I don't have another place for i.e. sunglasses, perfume, body lotion etc. Does that count as an organizational tip? Have a place to put all your junk that you don't want anyone to see. Ya, that totally counts.

On the left you'll see where I shove folded clothes that have no other home. Jeans, sweatshirts, workout clothes (which haven't been used in weeks - SHAME). AND beside my helpful storage shelf (made by the ever handy Mr B) is are my hand-weights and yoga mats. They've long for gotten who I am and what it feels like to be used by me. I promise we'll all have a Jillian Michael's date in the near future (someome please hold me accountable to that).

There you have it. That's my closet.

I'm not going to pretend to be uber organized and offer advice on something I could clearly use some assistance with BUT I will say it's super super important to clean your closet every once in a while.

I remember a long time ago watching this episode of Oprah (*sigh*, remember Oprah) and she said that when you clean you closet if you haven't worn an item within the last year, get rid of it. I now try and follow that when I'm cleaning my closet. I used to keep things "just in case" but I'm really trying to stop that.

PLUS, the more you get rid of the more you get to buy. That's how it works, right?

Now, if you REALLY want to see what I'd like my closet to look like, just head on over to my friend Deena's blog (she's shoestoshiraz below). Her closet will blow your mind and will likely cause you some serious closet-envy. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Check out the other ladies too, just cause they're all lovely!

ALSO linkup with us this week and all the weeks to follow... there may or may not be some super fun Giveaways in our future!!!

what I wore - Fall style challenge #4

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

The Fall Style Challenge has come to an end and as you'll be able to see, I'm already sliding back into old habits. Apparently, I'd wear a neutral sweater every day of the week if not told otherwise (as evidenced by the picture below). At least, thanks to Alison's advice, I've added the cute leopard scarf to the mix (although, looking below, I'm thinking I may be starting to use this as a crutch too lol).

I'm still confident that the style challenges help me build a good foundation of basics as well as working in trendier pieces without feeling like I'm trying too hard or dressing outside of my age bracket.

Anyways, here's what some of the past week has looked like:

I'll need to chill on the beige sweaters next week, it could become a problem lol

Once again, linking up with some of my fellow style challengers and we have all got along sooooo well that we're starting a NEW linkup I hope you'll all join up with. See info below.

Family Pics - the importance of great photography

Sunday, November 2, 2014

Okay, you're not actually going to get a ton of family pics here, fooled ya BUT you're going to hear about the pics we had taken Sunday (don't worry, you'll see the actual pics shortly after we do).

Mr. B HATES getting pictures taken but I LOVE having nice pictures. Can you guess who wins that one? Yup, ME, EVERYtime.

He's argued that it's too much money (despite the fact our photographers are very reasonably priced) but I argue, that when you walk around our house and see beautiful pictures that capture the true essence of our family, you cannot put a price on that.

I think part of the reason he's become less arguable is because we have the best photographers. Seriously.

If you meet people you like hanging out with, that make you laugh, make your child smile and take AMAZING pictures... don't let them go... EVER.

MillerEllis have been our photographers since before we were engaged.... since before mini-me was even a thought in our minds (okay, she was a thought, but a hypothetical one). It took one session to have us (or me) hooked. No looking back. Engagement, wedding, maternity, newborn... the list goes on (reminding me, I need to do some flashback photo entries)

I digress, we had family pics taken yesterday and if the Instagram shot is any indication of how these pics will turn out, call me thoroughly impressed (again).

I recognize that the bulk of my readers aren't local, but show MillerEllis some Facebook love by liking their page. Not only will you get to see all their amazing images BUT you'll get the 'sneak peeks' of our pics in real time!

If you ARE local, then you must like their page immediately AND book your next photos ASAP! They regularly offer 'mini sessions' that are very affordable.

If you aren't local, I hope you're as fortunate as we are to have some amazing photographers/friends to capture your family's most precious moments.

For my Style Challenge ladies - Nicole (the 'Miller' in MillerEllis) is in our fall challenge ;)

**I did not receive compensation for this post, I just have mad-love for these ladies**
