NEW linkup! Plus, a peek into my closet (Yikes)

Thursday, November 6, 2014

I'm super excited to introduce a new linkup happening every other Friday for the foreseeable future.

I love linkups for a number of reasons: they hold me accountable in actually getting posts up, they're usually focused on things I may not necessary think to write/post about AND they usually include a bunch of awesome bloggers. This linkup is no exception!
The Style Me Bloggers linkup series is a bunch of women bloggers who met through, you guessed it, Alison's (Get Your Pretty On) Style Me Challenges. Well, we've enjoyed each other so much that we've decided to linkup (but don't worry, I'm sure we're all set on participating in future Style Challenges as well).

sooooo here we go....

A peek into my closet/organizational tips

I will begin by saying that I did NOT clean or tidy my closet in any way prior to taking these pictures. It's not that I don't think you all deserve to see my closet at the best it can (and should) be, it's more about not having the time (or energy) as I scramble to get this post in order. In my defense, this is just further keeping with my transparency... right? Ya, let's go with that.

Closets get and stay messy, that's just how it is. Honestly, this is actually pretty clean and tidy for me.

I'll apologize now for the crappy picture quality... due to my aforementioned rush, I'm once again relying on my iphone. Sidenote: I've tried to convince Mr. B I desperately need a new phone solely for the picture quality and posting on the blog. He's not convinced.

below is the right side: I SWEAR there's order here. Top is dress pants/skirts, then blazers, long sleep button downs, short sleeve blouses and then sleeveless dressier (ie work-ish) shirts. That last blazer on the top row, he wasn't put back where he belongs. oops (this is how the madness starts)
Bottom: pants/jeans, tanks inappropriate or work (read: girl's night apparel - sidenote: I need one of those), tees, long sleeve tees and then the scarf hanger.
Middle rack is shoes and things I haven't found another place for. DON'T panic, this is just a TINY portion of my shoes. The majority live in the closet downstairs.

Left side: top is dresses/skirts and they are in no particular order.
Bottom is sweaters/cardies. I LOVE this section BUT it clearly looks like it needs some color.

Yes, I have a plastic dresser in my closet AND it kind of looks like that whole ensemble on the left belongs in a dorm room closet. Clearly, I need a closet makeover. BUT look at all the pretty things!

The yellow box is filled with bracelets and the purple one with earrings. The little pieces on top are ones I wear on the regular and apparently am too lazy to put away. Go me.
In the drawers you ask... that would be all of the random stuff I don't have another place for i.e. sunglasses, perfume, body lotion etc. Does that count as an organizational tip? Have a place to put all your junk that you don't want anyone to see. Ya, that totally counts.

On the left you'll see where I shove folded clothes that have no other home. Jeans, sweatshirts, workout clothes (which haven't been used in weeks - SHAME). AND beside my helpful storage shelf (made by the ever handy Mr B) is are my hand-weights and yoga mats. They've long for gotten who I am and what it feels like to be used by me. I promise we'll all have a Jillian Michael's date in the near future (someome please hold me accountable to that).

There you have it. That's my closet.

I'm not going to pretend to be uber organized and offer advice on something I could clearly use some assistance with BUT I will say it's super super important to clean your closet every once in a while.

I remember a long time ago watching this episode of Oprah (*sigh*, remember Oprah) and she said that when you clean you closet if you haven't worn an item within the last year, get rid of it. I now try and follow that when I'm cleaning my closet. I used to keep things "just in case" but I'm really trying to stop that.

PLUS, the more you get rid of the more you get to buy. That's how it works, right?

Now, if you REALLY want to see what I'd like my closet to look like, just head on over to my friend Deena's blog (she's shoestoshiraz below). Her closet will blow your mind and will likely cause you some serious closet-envy. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Check out the other ladies too, just cause they're all lovely!

ALSO linkup with us this week and all the weeks to follow... there may or may not be some super fun Giveaways in our future!!!

  4. I like how you have the different areas of your closet - I need some more of that. Maybe Deena could travel around and give us all closet makeovers! I'm terrible about keeping things just in case too ( I have a whole bunch of pants "just in case" I ever fit into a size 6 again - probably should just give that one up)! Have a wonderful weekend!

  5. Thanks for sharing! I concur with the whole need-a-new-phone-for-better-blog-photos argument. I am still trying to convince my fella of the same thing and he thinks that it is just operator error.

  6. You are such a great YOU. Love that you didn't take time to do extra picking up or organizing in your closet. It looks darn good just like this. Really like the idea of the little plastic bin with drawers. Great place to keep unmentionables or gloves and hats and winter scarves, socks, panty hose...I think I am the only one who wears them anymore. Thank you for the tour.

  7. This is such a fun link up idea!! I really need to do one of those Style Me Pretty challenges sometime. I think my favorite part of your closet is how you've organized your jewelry. And, I miss the Oprah days! I have read in Real Simple to turn your hangers all backwards and after you wear something to turn it the other way. Whatever you don't wear in a year, donate or give away... I need to really do this sometime!

    1. I've also read the hanger tip and every January I think I'll do that but never get around to it and of course that can't be done mid year for some reason. lol Maybe I'll try it this new year.

  9. I love your side comments. You're so funny. I told people to do over to Deena's blog too. I have serious closet envy too! And if it makes you feel better, all of my drawers in my bathroom are totally chaos. Although each drawer has a purpose, like one drawer is nail polish, it's just thrown in there, but at least it's all nail polish, so I guess that's organizing right. Like things are in a drawer together, hehe.
