5 things I miss about my teens

Thursday, October 30, 2014

This week we're doing a way-back flash-back by channeling our teen years and what was super awesome about them. Unfortunately, my teen years are seeming further ago than I'd like to admit. Regardless, I'm sure I can come up with (at least) a few things I miss about those days...

5 things I miss about my teens

  1. School - I'll be the dork that says it, I miss school. I don't miss homework and I don't miss math, but I miss the social aspect and learning just to learn (although, I likely wouldn't have said that while actually attending school, well not the bit about learning anyways).
  2. Parties - I still attend parties as an adult  but it's just not the same. Now there are responsibilities associated (like bringing food) and a kid's table for all the mini side-kicks. Then again, parties in my teens paled in comparison to my early twenties! lol that's a whole other series of posts.
  3. Acting like a total idiot - some would argue I still do this regularly BUT it's definitely not in the same way. Some of the things my friends and I would think to do, just baffle my mind now but man we laughed. Like eating goldfish (for the record, I did not actually do this), egging cars (this is illegal, I am NOT endorsing this - especially after Mr. B's van got egged last week), drinking vinegar packets (again, gross, don't do it), "borrowing" my parents car without permission etc.
  4. Lack of Responsibility - sure, as a teen, I had responsibilities and was fairly responsible as teens go; however, compared to now, those days were easy peasy.
  5. My body - I was thinner with less wrinkles and better hair. Sadly, I was SOOOOO unappreciative at the time! Looking back, I really wish I saw myself for what I really looked like and was a little gentler on my younger self.

It's funny thinking back because I remember some of the moments of my teen years being really hard ones. Struggles I thought would be the worst I'd ever face, moments that I wanted to last forever and others I thought would never end. So many friendships formed and then broken and then re-formed, loves had and lost and oh the internal battles.

Looking back, there's TONS I'd change, but my teens years without a doubt had a significant impact on the person I am and the life I have today and I wouldn't have it any other way.

sorry for the lack funny/embarrassing photos from my teens years, I'm not nearly organized or motivated enough (read: I'm exhausted) to fish them out of where ever they might be hiding.

what I wore - Fall Style Challenge week #3

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

I write this from the comfort of a meeting room at my office while on my lunch. Suffice to say, I've been crazy busy lately (aren't we all?) and the blogging is getting behind (that implies I was at some point on the ball... right).

I have also been craptastic at taking pics this past week.... soooo the quality of this post will be questionable. Sorry.

In my defense, I'm currently sick AND mini-me is proving that the 18 month sleep regression is a REAL thing. BAH. "no sleepies" is her favorite thing to say at bedtime and then she proceeds to play, sing songs, and run around screaming (happily) for two hours. It could be worse, she could be miserable.Although, my quality of sleep has taken a dive due to this awful cold and tiny feet smacking me in the face all night (this kid moves NONstop in her sleep). I digress.

Anyways, back to the point. Here's what I've managed to dress myself in:

The Style Challenge only has a few more days left and then I'm left to my own devices until the Fall Challenge starts. Don't worry, I'm not allowed to wear yoga pants to work so I'll manage to pull something together.

HERE's what I'm wearing on my nails now - perfectly fall and lots of fun AND I managed to incorporate some leopard and sparkles (because who doesn't love leopard and sparkles?):

Gold Fishnet and Gilded Leopard designs

see this link for more info on Jamberry wraps or HERE to shop online.

Don't forget to see what my fellow Style Challengers have been wearing this past week (they've likely been more diligent than I)

well HELLO Jamberry nails

Sunday, October 26, 2014

I have been seeing Jamberry nail wraps ALL over my Facebook for some time now. I had good intentions of giving them a try at some point but never got around to it.

Enter my mommy-friend Chelsea! She's a fellow mom and blogger and she offered to let me try out the Jamberry wraps in exchange for a review - DEAL!

I LOVE having pretty nails. I've gone through many nail phases including (but not limited to) acrylic/solar tips, home manicures, salon manicures, shellac manicures etc. Most recently, I've been getting shellac on my finger nails for special occasions (and when the mood strikes). I love how long shellac lasts but I'm not too keen on the cost OR what it does to my nails.

Often, I'll resort to home manicures which always seem like a good idea... until I wake up the next morning with sheet marks on my nails and then chip said nails before I leave the house. I have never had a home manicure go 24hours without a chip or dent. *sighs*

It took a while for me to actually getting around to applying the wraps. I wanted to wait until I wasn't chasing a toddler... or working... or cooking or cleaning... you get the idea, it took a while. I also over estimated how long it would take me to apply them (I'm used to waiting for nail polish to dry).

First, I dutifully watched the application videos. I tried to follow instructions as good as possible but in hindsight I probably rushed the application a little because I was so excited to see how it would turn out!

I was immediately thrilled with the results. My nails looked so pretty but they usually do RIGHT after a mani.

Today marks day 6 and I'm VERY impressed. I've read that people wear the Jamberry wraps for up to two weeks. I can see them lasting that long but I'm not sure I will be able to wait that long to try some new designs.

Please tell me someone else is reminded of "the claw" from Liar Liar when looking at these pics. Anyone? Bueller?

You can see that my nails are growing a bit, besides that, very little difference from day 1. I'm impressed because this is my first time applying them, I rushed a little, and I'm still going to get a solid week out of this manicure (I could get more, but I know I have more arriving soon lol).

I've been so happy with the results, I've joined Chelsea's team and will be selling Jamberry as a fun hobby. For those who know me, I'm no salesperson, but when I find something I like, I like to share and I really like these nail wraps. So much so, it's been very challenging to pick only a few to try for now (there are over 300 different designs and I love the majority of them).

I'm not going to beg you to order from me or join my team or anything like that. I DO want you to know I would NOT recommend these if I didn't love them AND I do want to share.... so, if you're interested in more info, see below, if not I dare you to look at the shop, see all the designs and not want to try them!

If you're not interested in buying but want to support me by 'liking' my Facebook Page, I'd greatly appreciate it!

If you'd like more info just comment below.

If you'd like to order (it's always buy 3 sheets get 1 free!) then feel free to visit my page and order away.

If you'd like to do the "7-day challenge" email at shaunacey@gmail.com with your address and I'll send you accent nails FREE so you can see how long the jamberry nail wraps last compared to regular polish.

If you're a blogger and are interested in trying and reviewing Jamberry wraps comment below or email me at shaunacey@gmail.com for more info

If you'd like to host an online (Canada only) or live party (local only) just comment or email for details

If you're interested in joining my team email me!

what I wore - Fall Style Challenge week #2

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Another week of the Fall Style Challenge. I'll admit, I've gone off track a few days (as per usual) but am loving most of the pieces and am warming up to some others.

It's been challenging to embrace booties and plaid shirts but I'm making progress.

You'll notice there are only 6 pics, that's because today I was home sick and didn't manage to get a picture of me in sweats. I am sure it's for the better than no one witnesses me in all my frumpy glory. I will point out, it's progress when your frumpy days coincide sick days.

Here's what I've been wearing this past week:

Yes, I'm aware of horribly tired I look in some of these pics... I blame the little cutie there and her early mornings this past week!

BONUS night out wear!!!
I had an event on Friday (more about that later) so here is me all dolled up and ready to go!

This awesome dress was purchased from Melanie Lynne last winter (and I got an AMAZING deal on it!)

Once again, linking up with some fellow challengers! Make sure you check them, and my other linkups, out!

Monday in a minute - family time

Monday, October 20, 2014

We had our annual visit to the pumpkin patch yesterday. Despite the chilly weather, we had an amazing time AND brought home some lovely little pumpkins!

Our little peanut was beyond proud of her find. Okay, I may have helped a wee bit with the choosing but had I not, we likely would have come home with the rotten pumpkin to the right.

I've been missing my little miss lately during the week and the weekends have been full with activities and going by much faster than I'd like. Thankfully, we are making a point to enjoy every minute.

I have said before, I want to blog more, I want to write more meaningful things more often and eventually I'll get those posts in. Right now though, I'm living the weekends up and getting in as much family time as I can.

Hope everyone had as wonderful of a weekend as I did and here's to a quick work-week!

top 5 pics... of me

Friday, October 17, 2014

Before I get started - the winner my 100 post Giveaway has been chosen - Deby - you're the winner!!! see HERE for more info! Thanks to EVERYone who entered. There just may be some other exciting giveaways in the near future ;)

I'll blame credit Deena for this week's topic.

I think the intention here was to look at pictures of ourselves a little differently.

I tend to be quite (overly) critical of myself and particularly of pictures of myself. Generally, this blog has helped that because I have had to let go of the hope that all the pictures I post will be awesome. My photographer (Mr. B) doesn't have the eye/patience for elusive perfect shot every time. It's good though. I can't always be edited. This is real life.

So, in an effort to be a little more true to myself (and you), I am not going to pick the pictures you would think. I am going to try and pick the top 5 pictures (that are relatively accessible) that I think capture ME (and not just some photo-shopped/fake smiling version of myself).

okay, admittedly, this pic has some instagram filter... I love it because it's on of my first times wearing red lipstick AND I had a super fun night out (my first, as a mom) with one of the bestest women I know!

I don't necessarily love this pic of me, but I love the outfit and it's something I would have NEVER worn prior to my deliberate journey out of frumpy mommy-hood.

Okay, had to throw these two momma pics in. It's such a big part of who I am. I might like these pics more for the cutie chubby baby ;) It also makes me miss my long hair ;)

A recent pic from the contest I entered (and WON but still need to write about!!) - read more here. I was kind of uncomfortable in this dress, it was tight and short and after having a baby I didn't feel I could pull it off, but sometimes you just need to go out of your comfort zone!

Picking these pics was so so so so much harder than I thought. Seriously! I wanted to pick the best of the best but that's not an accurate depiction of me.

I also realized, when picking these choices, I'm so freaking critical of myself. I would never, ever, be even remotely as critical about someone else. It's honestly ridiculous.

Anyways, this post has inspired me... you may get some more random pics of me in the near future... some highly edited pics and others with no makeup :) Stay tuned.

what I wore - fall style challenge week #1

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

I have been trying to be diligent about taking daily outfit pics lately. As annoying as Mr. B may find it, it's helpful for me to see what looks good (or not so much) for future reference. PLUS, it makes it easy to share with all of you!

The Fall Style Challenge is underway (it started Monday) and even though only the first two pics are 'challenge outfits', the majority of the pieces are part of the challenge (AND I already had a bunch of them already in my closet!)

Some of the challenge pieces this go around are definitely challenging for me. See those booties with rolled up jeans?? Ya, I'm still not sure if I love the look on me but apparently it's on trend. Sometimes, when I try and wear something trendy, I end up feeling silly BUT I'm comforted knowing I'm not the only one thrown out of my comfort zone.

Click HERE to see my previous Style Challenge looks/posts.

What's your fav look of the week? Any fall trends you're loving or terrified of?

If you haven't entered my GIVEAWAY for a beautiful blanket scarf yet, you've got less than 2 days left to get your entry in! HURRY

Linking up with some fellow challengers for the next few weeks. Make sure you visit their links below to see how they've interpreted the outfits (I think you'll be surprised how different we all look!)

my OTHER blog

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

I haven't posted about my OTHER blog here much. It's super personal and close to my heart. It started over two years ago, shortly after I found out I was pregnant.

My initial intro into blog-world was documenting my pregnancy which quickly turned into letters for mini-me. How could I not have a place where I devote some kind of written word to my mini?

Letters for Annabelle is close to my heart, obviously. It needs no publicity because the purpose of it has nothing to do with other people (though I'm happy to share with those interested).

I did want to share this entry though, because it's a glimpse of my absolute pride of this little girl. A snapshot of my life as a parent right now.

I write here a lot of fashion, clothes etc. As much as I love those things, my world is so much bigger and my heart full with other things.

ANYWAYS, if anyone is interested in a look at my life as a proud momma right at this moment... HERE IT IS.

giving thanks

Monday, October 13, 2014

Today marks Canadian Thanksgiving.

For some reason, Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. It may have something to do with my general love of fall and the abundance of delicious eats; however, I'm confident my real love for this holiday has more to do with people and the whole idea of giving thanks.

I try to generally be grateful but with all of the day-to-day "stuff" of life, gratefulness sometimes gets put on a back-burner. It really is something I need to be more conscientious about. Being grateful.

I made a point today, and this weekend in general, to at least think about the things I"m grateful for. I won't attempt to create an exhaustive list (because it's ever-changing/growing) but I will give you a few,

This Thanksgiving, I'm giving an extra-big dose of thankful for the following:

  • my happy healthy beautiful girl. I could gush for pages/hours about mini-me. I'll endeavor to keep it brief. She is my heart, my soul, and I'm especially grateful for the exact age and stage she is right now. Watching her grow into her own little person and personality is not only an absolute pleasure, but the greatest honor I'll ever be bestowed. Words can't described my love for this child and what a true blessing she is. Her smile and laugh literally lights up a room and my whole heart.

  • my husband. He drives me crazy sometimes but I love this man. He is a wonderful husband, friend and partner and there is no doubt in my mind, he is one of the best fathers in the entire world. Mini-me and I are so so lucky to call him ours. He's super handsome too, added bonus ;)
  • my family. I love each and every one of them. I love that this holiday pretty much requires us to spend time together. I'm thankful every time I see them, though never enough and I don't tell them when I should. I am also thankful for how wonderful they are with mini-me. To see their love for her only strengthens my love for them.

  • my friends. I don't see them enough but I have amazing friends. The kind of people I could call without any notice and they'd literally drop everything to help me out. Those sentiments are echoed. I love you all.
  • all of you. I don't get to contribute as much or as often as I'd like her. It's not always as insightful as I had intended this blog to at some point be BUT it's my place. It's my place where I can go and just be me. Once you become a wife and then a mother, sometimes it feels like the other parts of you get put away. Not here. Here I'm me, just the me who also happens to be a wife and mom. AND I have all these new and wonderful people to share with and be witness to their own journeys. So thank you.
Okay, enough of the cheese for now. I know most of you are not Canadian, but let this be a reminder to think about the things you're grateful for today AND give you something to look forward to as your Thanksgiving approaches.

All the thanks in the world,

Make sure you've entered my GIVEAWAY!

sneaky spiders

Thursday, October 9, 2014

I don't like spiders. I may or may not be terrified of them.

Naturally, when a big juicy spider appeared, seemingly out of no where, on my dashboard while driving, I had what one may describe as a 'freak out'.

Thankfully, I had the where with all to pull over and try and hit the spider with my water bottle. Obviously, I missed and the spider seemed to fall in my bag (my lunch/work bag). I contemplated getting out of the car, dumping out the bag and ensuring that the spider had indeed fallen in my bag. I didn't. Primarily, because I felt that the owners of the house I had pulled over in front of would wonder why the hell I was dumping the contents of my car of their lawn.

I did; however, drive the remainder of the way home giving the above-mentioned bag a little shake every now and then (you know, just in case the spider had decided to try and make his way out).

Wouldn't you know, that when I finally arrived home, dumped the bag, the spider was no where to be found.

You know what this means right? My car is now essentially a ticking time bomb for a lurking spider.

It's inevitable, that, when I least expect it, that spider is going to make itself known... crawling up my leg while I'm driving on the highway or something. UGH.

Why are spiders so sneaky? And why am I so scared of them? And most importantly, when is that sneaky little bugger going to make himself known again?

what I wore

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Since I complained last week about falling back into my old black, white and grey clothing pattern, I really made an effort this week to add some color back! I think I was relatively successful!

Please excuse my 'tired face' in most pics... mini-me decided she didn't like her crib last week. I'm hoping we're back on track now, but apparently you never know with these little people.

Some thoughts:

  • I still love my red pants but am sad that they're not going to be around for the long-haul as they've already started to fade (could be that I wear them too often). I'm on the hunt for good-quality red jeans. Let me know if you spot any!
  • Boot-appropriate weather!!! No further explanation needed... now I need more boots.
  • I am in LOVE with this plaid scarf from Old Navy.
  • I also wore white past labor day (WHOA) and paired with boots - inspired by my fashionable friend Jill @ Doused in Pink
  • I'm not over my burgundy pants yet AND realizing my denim vest works with sweaters is kind of exciting to me!

pinspired (by me): burgundy pants

Saturday, October 4, 2014

I've seen a lot of "Pinspired" posts. People find outfits on Pinterest and post pics of how they look in real life.

I have kind of done this, except the Pinterest pic is actually one I made. Still counts, right? I pinspired myself?! Lets go with that.

In an attempt get organized for fall, I created a few fall looks 1, 2 and 3. My hope was that I'd be able to recreate these looks and incorporate them into my fall wardrobe.

Here's how my first attempt went:

My 'real-life' interpretation
sweater: H&M, scarf: Old Navy, pant: RW&co, shoes: Lord and Taylor (from spring)

I wasn't motivated or organized enough to paint my nails or have my purse in the pic but overall I think my first attempt went really well! I already know this will be a staple outfit this fall/winter. You can't go wrong with casual, cute AND comfy!

Also, I'm LOVING these pants from RW&co and may or may not be considering purchasing them in every color :)

How do you think I did?? Any other styling suggests for my burgundy pants?

5 things I love about fall

Friday, October 3, 2014

Last week I had to pick 5 of my fav pics and it was very difficult. I LOVE fall, so picking things I like about it will be easy... I will TRY and limit it to 5 :)

5 things I love about fall

  1. Colorful leaves - okay, maybe  this is the Canadian in me speaking, but there's just something about a landscape with multi-colored leaves that makes me happy.

  2. Fall Fashion - I LOVE fall fashion (I may have said this once or twice). I love cozy looks with cute boots. I've not yet been able to adequately pull off these looks so I'm looking forward to attempting it this fall!!

  3. Weather - as much as I love a hot summer, I seriously love cool (but not cold) days with beautiful sunshine and a nice breeze. Fall air just smells fresher and feels cleaner.
  4. Hot drinks - Chai tea latte, pumpkin spice anything - you can't go wrong with hot drinks on a cool, sunny fall day.

  5. Thanksgiving - the food, the family, the wine. I love thanksgiving and we Canadians celebrate it much earlier (in Oct) so I get to enjoy it in the midst my one of my most favorite seasons! PERFECT!! Bring on the turkey. An FYI, Canadian thanksgiving is next weekend - woohoo!

Link up with us next on Oct 17!

what I wore (Oct 1, 2014)

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

I put together my usually photo-collage of what I've  been wearing this past week (outfits I managed to take pics of anyways) and was a little disappointed in myself.

Why am I disappointed? It feels really repetitive and like I'm sliding back to my black, white and denim ways. Maybe it's just in my head.

I have found myself standing in my closet almost every day and really having a hard time picking out outfits I feel great in. I can blame some of this on the weather, it's been too warm to wear my 'fall wear' (read: sweaters and boots) but too late to wear my summer stuff (okay, I rocked my $1 Old Navy flip flops on the weekend... I needed one last wear). Yes people, this is tough stuff.

Thankfully, the Fall Style Challenge will begin soon and will hopefully help me rejuvenate my wardrobe!

So here's my past week in clothes:

the Fall Style Challenge registration is open now, the shopping list will be emailed on October 3 and the challenge runs Oct 13 - Nov 1.
