What I wore and what I learned (Summer Style Challenge)

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Day 21 of the Summer Style Challenge was Sunday. It's a sad day when Alison isn't there to tell me what to wear on the daily.

Below are what days 17-21 looked like for me. I did deviate throughout the 21 days but mostly because I don't like wearing shorts to work or because the weather was crap (read: cold).

Here are a few things I learned this time around:

I can rock a fedora - I've always liked the look of these on everyone else but was convinced they weren't for me. Then I saw the fedora on the list and knew I had to at list give it a go. Now it's my new go-to especially for on the weekends. Sneaky fact: you can easily throw on a fedora if you didn't have time to wash your hair and no one will ever know :)

White pants are not the devil - I've previously written an entire post (HERE) about white pants and why I never wear them. Naturally, they were items on both the spring AND summer challenges and I think I might just finally be getting used to them. I used to restrict my white-pants-wearing days to the weekend in case there was some kind of unfortunate incident BUT I wore them to work last week. I'm happy to report that I did not sit in chocolate or spill apple juice down the front of me. Little secret: I may or may not have brought an extra pair of pants to work just in case.

Denim vests are cool - and not just in the 80s (although Mr. B isn't convinced). Seriously, they add a little something to an outfit to make you look a little more stylish/cool. See Thursday and Saturday's outfits below and imagine them without the vest, it's just not the same! Word of advice: get the smaller size, you'll never button it up and if it's fitted it'll give you the illusion of more of waist when you're wearing it (I really am learning stuff!)

I had a great experience this time around and loved linking up with some fellow participants (check our their awesome blogs at the bottom of this post). My only regret is how insanely busy I've been lately and how I wasn't able to participate in the Facebook group. I did read it lots and we were blessed with another amazing group of beautiful (inside and out) women.

oh ya, that's a bathroom at the gym selfie post-workout. Apparently I have no shame.

Sunday

Sorry to report, no pics since Sunday. As soon as the style challenge ends I fall apart. I swear I've been getting dressed every day, just not organized enough to take a pic.
Although, Mr. B got so used to helping me with pics that he asked yesterday as I was getting into my car "don't you need me to take your picture?" Love this man!

  3. I really love that denim vest with the black dress, I need to try that. My denim vest has white polka dots all over it, so it can be challenging to figure out what to wear with it. My husband is now into fedoras, too! We have a beach vacation coming up and he bought TWO fedoras for it! He owns 1 more then me now! lol!

    1. smaller is key and so much more flattering. Mine is an XS and I'm not usually an XS in much ;)
Plus, it makes you feel thinner buying a smaller size.
